The Kalimpong Bharat Uday Society has come a long way since its establishment in 2006, when it was set up as a youth organization which is working with exclusive aim to inculcate and instill sense of pride of being an Indian in every citizen of the country and work towards promotion of rural development, eradication of illiteracy, generate awareness of environmental pollution and prevention and campaign for health awareness.
Since 2006, we have been constantly conducting seminars involving resource persons and students from Kalimpong and surrounding village schools. We are also providing assistance to rural student by conducting couching camped in different places (like Pemling, Samthar, Nimbong, Mission Hill and Echey Busty).This area is most affected with land slide, so we are working in consult with municipality and forest department to educate public about prevention of deforestation and pollution caused by use of plastic.
Our members situated at 500 different villages are actively participating in helping villagers to make them aware regarding health issues like prevention of HIV/AIDS, proper sanitation, birth control and guiding sick people for better medical treatment.
In July 2009, we conducted an essay contest with exclusive aim to inculcate and instill sense of pride of being an Indian among students of Darjeeling district, and Sikkim. Thus we organize many programme in every year.In January 2010, we distributed cloth to 50 families of Sinjee Village. In May 2009, Darjeeling District was badly hit by Aila (Cyclone), and our members actively participated to help them by distributing grocery items, cloths, utensils, medicine etc.
On 2ndJanuary 2011, we distributed cloth to 100 families of Munsong Village. In 17th Feb, 2011, we conducted Yoga Camp in which around 200 people participated.On 15th March, 2011 we conducted an awareness camp in Parnami Balika Vidhya Mandir School with the help of local Advocates regarding women’s rights.
On 3rd April, 2011 we celebrated the Hindu New Year with a motive to make people aware about the significance of Hindu New Year. The programme was organized by our members in the Kalimpong town hall. The programme was started with a powerpoint presentation illustrating the significance of hindu new year, followed by speech by our president and ended with few cultural dances and songs.
On 12th January, 2012 we celebrated National Youth Day on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda birthday at Nepali Adhyan Samiti in which around 200 youths participated.On 14th August, 2012 we celebrated “Akhand Bharat Diwas” at Kalyan Ashram, Kalimpong. On this occasion we talked about the philosophy of Rishi Arbinda and the struggle of his life on the akand bharat sankalp.On 25th December, 2012 we celebrated “Sankalp Diwas” to take oath to conduct one year programme based on 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. We made the schedule of one year programme on the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda.On 12th January 2013 organized an opening ceremony for the one year programme by conducting a mass rally in Kalimpong town.
In February we organized a Surya Namaskar Training Camp and in March we organized a Free Medical Camp.In April 2013 we organized a Free Medical Camp at Gitkolbung. In May we organized an Exhibition on Organic Farming at Dungra Village. In June we organized Sports Competition at Pemling and in January we organized a Yoga Shivir at Marwari Panchayat Bhavan.
